We already wrote about the colossal losses of the forest in our previous tips (see below) . Trees provide us with oxygen, slow down global warming, prevent soil erosion and are home to many animal species. Trees deserve better treatment than two minutes of hand-wiping: their value to mankind is much greater than the raw material for napkins.
Don't buy 100% cellulose paper towels! Use fabric. This step has several advantages:
- they save the trees;
- they last longer;
- in total they will cost less;
- they create a special coziness at the meal, as they have a variety of designs and you can choose (or sew) the one that you like;
- you can experiment with serving;
- they absorb moisture better;
- they use fewer resources and reduce carbon emissions because cloth towels are reused;
- less harm from transportation for the reasons mentioned above;
- the amount of garbage is reduced.
If you are concerned about grease stains on cloth towels, you can deal with them by using table salt or baking soda sprinkled on the stain, vinegar or soap solution, mustard powder, or rubbing in chalk.
