HomeNewsUkrainian organic products have a state mark

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine in February presented a state mark for labeling organic products by producers. This category includes food grown without the use of pesticides, mineral fertilizers and artificial food additives. According to the results of the competition, in which 11 regions of Ukraine took part, the author of the national logo was an eco-activist, a graduate of the Kharkov State Academy of Design and Arts, Polina Makarova. The logo is a green leaf formed at the intersection of blue and yellow circles.

“Thanks to it, organic products, the production of which fully meets the requirements of the Law “On the Production and Circulation of Organic Agricultural Products and Raw Materials”, can be recognized by labeling on store shelves both in Ukraine and abroad. Every consumer can know that the products that bear this logo are organically clean,” Deputy Minister Inna Grebenyuk commented

Olena Berezovskaya, head of the board of the Public Association of Producers of Organic Certified Products "Organic Ukraine", said that more than 150 types of domestically produced organic products can be found on store shelves in Ukraine, but so far they are certified in accordance with international systems. New Ukrainian state standards in the field of organic products will come into force with the new edition of the Law "On organic production and circulation of organic products" in early spring 2016. In accordance with the new law, a new body will be determined to carry out certification of domestic producers. Ukrainian standards will be developed based on the European standards for their recognition in the EU countries.

According to the UNIAN agency, the consumption of organic products in Ukraine in 2014 compared to 2013 increased by 2.3 million euros. Ukraine ranks 20th in the world in terms of the area used for organic cultivation of agricultural products, with an indicator of 400.8 thousand hectares, which is 1% of all agricultural land in the country.
