"I recycle waste."

Tomorrow, November 15, the world will celebrate Global Recycling Day, designed to draw the attention of authorities and the general public to the problem of proper waste disposal, the environmental principles of Reduce-Reuse-Recycle (reduce consumption , reuse things, recycle waste).

Recycling Day originates from a national event in the United States called America Recycles Day ("The day America recycles waste"). The action was first held in 1994, and today its website informs that almost 65 thousand people have made a promise to hand over more things for recycling, while local events include hundreds of places for collecting recyclables across the country.

A huge amount of waste, which for the most part is not recycled in any way, is a consequence of the overconsumption of modern society and the principle of "buy, use, throw away." Such a simple approach to the use of any things (from bags and utensils to complex electronic devices) leads us to irreversible consequences: excessive consumption of natural resources (for disposable and short-lived materials), pollution of soils and oceans (the appearance of oceanic garbage islands), destruction of ecosystems , etc. .P. To change the situation, you need to start with your own actions: stop buying unnecessary things, choose eco-friendly packaging , reuse materials (plastic bags, clothes, etc.), and recycle.

On the occasion of International Recycling Day, Greenpeace in Russia is hosting the “One Day of Action FOR Separate Collection” campaign, which invites the authorities to demonstrate their interest in separate waste collection, as well as organize local events dedicated to responsible waste management. Moscow, St. Petersburg, Petrozavodsk, Veliky Novgorod, Nizhny Novgorod, Kemerovo, Armavir, Syktyvkar, Samara, Omsk, Nefteyugansk and other Russian cities have already joined the action.
