This advice sounds ridiculous: after all, a plastic straw is such a trifle! But just imagine that every person, when ordering food in a restaurant, takes a drink with a plastic straw, which is immediately thrown away and cannot be recycled. And such straws are used in almost every institution ... In the USA alone, 500 million (!) Straws are thrown out daily. Over the past 25 years, over 6 million plastic straws have been collected from beaches around the world. 90% of all garbage goes to the ocean, and plastic straws are in the top ten. And in 2014, straws entered the top 5 ocean trash, losing to plastic lids, wrappers and cigarette butts. Finally, their very production harms the environment.
What can you do? Buying a glass straw and carrying it around with you, or not using straws at all, is the most environmentally friendly step you can take.
