Each holiday has its own customs. By the bright day of Christ's Resurrection, it is customary to paint eggs, symbolizing the Holy Sepulcher, in which eternal life is hidden. Initially, eggs were dyed only red, but gradually the tradition began to acquire more and more original inventions. But often these innovations do not benefit the body (the paint is absorbed through the shell into protein) and the environment.
We do not recommend eating eggs*, however, if you still follow the Christian tradition, we offer you alternative paint options made from natural ingredients that will please you with a huge selection of colors, as well as bring a little imagination to the process:
- onion skins are orange to dark brown depending on the time the eggs are boiled;
- turmeric, known for its antiseptic properties, will impart a golden yellow color. Use 20 g of turmeric per 1 liter of water and boil the eggs in it for 10 minutes. You can also put already boiled eggs in hot water with 3 tbsp. l. turmeric;
- spinach and nettle give a rich green color - can be used together or separately;
- strong coffee or black tea will color eggs in chocolate shades;
- purple color can be obtained from blueberries (juice, jam, decoction). It can also be achieved with violets: pour hot water over the flowers, let it brew and soak the eggs overnight. If you add a little lemon juice to the water, you get a lavender color;
- to get a pink color, already boiled eggs are soaked overnight in beetroot or cranberry juice;
- the blue color of the eggs is obtained by soaking in the infusion of red cabbage. Soak two finely chopped heads of red cabbage in 1/2 liter of water, add 6 tablespoons of white vinegar to the solution, after which the solution should be infused overnight for a deeper color. The next time you can soak boiled eggs in it.
Who is bored with flowers, you can add more creativity in patterns:
- to obtain a dotted pattern, you need to roll a wet egg in rice, buckwheat or other cereals, wrap tightly in gauze, tie tightly and boil in any of the above dyes;
- white patterns can be applied with powdered sugar paste. Add a little water to a glass of powdered sugar to make the mixture very thick. Using a pastry syringe, apply a pattern to boiled and colored eggs;
- an abstract pattern can be obtained by wrapping an egg in parsley and dill leaves. Then you need to tightly tie with a stocking and boil in the dye.
So, the full gamut of colors is received! But being carried away by a creative activity, remember the true purpose of the holiday, and also do not waste natural resources in vain.
