We have repeatedly advised not to use disposable tableware in your everyday life. Today's advice refers to visiting places where food is given out in such containers. The culture of the so-called "fast food" - fast food (and more often simply "junk food") and establishments of the same fast food - has rapidly gained popularity in modern society, where everything is preferred to be done quickly, unfortunately, often without paying due attention to the scale consequences - both for themselves and for other inhabitants of the Planet. As a rule, food in such establishments is served in disposable utensils, which leads to a huge amount of garbage generated with absolutely no real need.
The good news is that this situation has already become apparent to Russian politicians, who earlier this year proposed introducing a “garbage tax” on fast food establishments. However, the effectiveness of such measures is ultimately questionable, since business owners with disposable tableware thrown away by every customer on every visit will find it easier to raise prices to include the cost of tax in it than to revise their time-honored schemes. In addition, the adoption of such laws and real control over their implementation is beyond the control of ordinary citizens. What can each of us change?
Refusal to visit restaurants that litter the planet with an unjustified amount of waste is a responsible choice that is available to everyone and allows you to make a modest contribution by “voting with your wallet” for the conscious attitude of restaurateurs to the problem of garbage. By reducing demand and expressing our environmental position, we reduce supply and encourage sellers to look for ways to become more sustainable.
