Yesterday, the TASS news agency presented a project on separate waste collection “ Separate with us! ”, which will be implemented in six Russian cities hosting matches of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia, i.e. in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Kazan, Rostov-on-Don and Saransk.
The legislative framework for this innovation was finally prepared two years ago: on December 29, 2014, federal law No. 458-FZ , amending the Federal Law “On production and consumption waste”, as well as certain legislative acts of the Russian Federation. Responsibility for waste management, adopted under No. 458-FZ, allows manufacturers to either take over the organization of a system for collecting and processing waste, or pay an environmental fee. The first company in the country to follow the new standards will be Coca-Cola Russia, which promises to recycle more than 4,500 tons of plastic waste by the end of this year, and by 2020 “collect for recycling at least 40% of consumer packaging waste produced by the manufacturer. To the market". To do this, schools, universities, courtyards will install special containers for separate collection of plastic.
Another interesting upcoming event in Russia related to garbage is the “ Week Without Garbage ” initiative, organized by a group of activists for separate waste collection from different regions of Russia. On the action page, everyone is invited to “start small”, supporting the idea of separate waste collection and recycling with specific actions until November 20th. To this end, a number of events dedicated to this topic and organized by enthusiasts are held throughout Russia. For example, five events are currently planned in Moscow and the Moscow Region:
- November 12 and 13: actions for separate collection of waste in the city of Odintsovo;
- From 13 to 19 November: environmental quest "Make the Earth feel good" at Tyoply Stan;
- November 16: lecture “Garbage vs Life in the ocean – who will win? An eyewitness account” at the Vorobyovy Gory ecocenter;
