HomeNewsPhilippine Lighting Revolution: Salt Water Lamps

A young couple, Aisa and Raphael Mijeno, after a trip to Mount Kalinga among the local population, who still use kerosene lamps, came up with the idea of creating a new product that solves the problem of lack of electricity. Affordable, cost-effective and environmentally friendly salt lamp based on a simple solution of water and salt. For a glass of water, you only need 2 tablespoons of salt and your lamp will work for 8 hours! It can charge mobile phones and other gadgets.

The working solution needs to be replaced only once every 6 months. Among other things, such a lamp is absolutely fireproof and harmless to the environment. The basis of its work is a galvanic cell like a battery, which makes a non-toxic salt solution from electrolytes, so the whole process is safe and the lamp can create LED lighting. If salty sea or ocean water is available to you, you can use it as a solution. The average salinity of ocean water is 35 parts per thousand.

The SALt team is also raising funds to provide salt lamps to poor villagers.

The development of the young couple has received international recognition in many competitions in Asia and won many prizes not only in the Philippines, but also in South Korea, Japan and Singapore. The guys intend to go beyond Asia and distribute their product around the world.
