MainNewsIn 2016 Moscow will buy electric buses to replace trolleybuses in the city center

At the end of October, from Maxim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor, Head of the Department of Transport and Development of Road Transport Infrastructure of Moscow, it became known that in 2016 the Moscow authorities would start purchasing electric buses - electric buses.

According to Liksutov, electric buses are a worthy replacement for trolleybuses, which, due to their immobility, create problems for other vehicles. At the moment, 40 trolleybuses "B" run in Moscow with a route along the Garden Ring. In total, the authorities plan to purchase several hundred electric buses, the first of which will appear in the city center. Domestic-made electric buses will be purchased: “We expect a good quality product from the Russian industry,” said Liksutov.

The first electric bus in Moscow began to be tested , so far without passengers, back in April of this year. Then an experimental model from LiAZ was used, which made it possible to travel up to 220-280 kilometers on a single charge, and it was reported that the first electric buses would supposedly travel along Petrovka and Maroseyka streets. In August, it was announced that the tests would last until the beginning of 2016, and in early October, Evgeny Mikhailov, General Director of Mosgortrans State Unitary Enterprise, announced that the LiAZ electric bus had worked in Moscow for several weeks, after which “serious problems in the energy management system” were discovered, and that new trials will continue after the necessary changes are made.

LiAZ also has competitors: for example, Drive Electro is engaged in the production of electric buses together with KamAZ. Their models were promised to be handed over to the Moscow authorities for trial operation in the autumn. The decision on the supply of Drive Electro electric buses, according to CEO Sergey Ivanov, depends on the results of tests in the winter.

there are no plans to use electric buses for transporting passengers yet , but the Moscow Regional Duma adopted a law according to which owners of electric vehicles in 2016 are exempted from paying transport tax.
