HomeNewsVegan meals are being prepared for Israeli soldiers

The Israeli army is faced with the need to prepare vegan meals for military personnel who have chosen a diet that does not harm animals.

According to Israeli news outlets, about 5% of Israelis avoid meat, dairy and egg products, making Israel the world's most vegan country (in relative terms, i.e. per capita). Military service is mandatory here, so it's only natural that vegan preferences have infiltrated the ranks of the military. And last year, some members of the military started protesting against the lack of vegan options in canteens. Major Omer Yuval, a conscript and one of the leaders of these protests: "We are committed to equal opportunity to allow vegan soldiers to live with dignity and serve the country in the best possible way."

As a result, Israel Defense Forces food officer Colonel Avi Harel was forced to make concessions by adding vegan food options for military personnel: breakfasts consist of tahini (sesame paste), nuts and dried fruits, and soy meat analogues are served for lunch. . This diet was introduced in February of this year. It is interesting that the military leadership of the country went further and offered their wards boots without leather and berets without wool.

It is also worth noting that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently expressed support for the local " Meat Free Monday " movement and organized a vegetarian day for his staff, bodyguards and the whole family at a residence in Jerusalem.
