The world-famous Swedish furniture manufacturer Ikea has announced the sale of vegetable meatballs in its cafes, according to CBS News , Mashable and a number of other foreign publications. The reason for this innovation is not at all the taste preferences of visitors, but ecology.
The new dish is similar to meatballs from Sweden, called "grönsaksbullar" and differs from its "traditional" counterparts in that it consists entirely of vegetables. One of the key ingredients in vegetable balls is kale. Ikea decided to present a vegetarian dish in the cafe, following its environmental strategy: the production of such food does not harm the environment - in particular, it leaves a much smaller carbon footprint (carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere).
Ikea's vegetarian novelty will first appear in Europe, after which it will be presented in other regions: the USA, Australia and Asia. Ikea Café is expected to make further menu changes in the near future to reduce the environmental impact of food production.
