The capital of Germany, Berlin, will be the first city in the world to turn a bus line into an ecological route with electric buses (electric buses). Passengers of the central city bus line of Berlin number 204 will be able to take advantage of the innovation this summer.
The announcement of the project and the official launch of the first "filling station" took place in March. It was implemented by the Berlin transport service BVG, the Technical University of Berlin and Bombardier Transportation (its PRIMOVE system is used). The electric bus charging pads are installed underground and allow 200 kW bus batteries to be charged in just a few minutes while stopping at terminal stations. One charge provides the ability to travel a distance of 6.1 km and back without additional stops. In this case, charging takes place without a cable connection: as soon as the electric bus is located above the charging panel, the charging coil installed on the bottom of the bus drops - an inductive energy transfer begins, generating an electromagnetic field. This process does not pose any danger to drivers, passengers, pedestrians, and even people with pacemakers.
The new fleet of electric buses will help Berlin reduce its CO2 emissions by around 260 tonnes annually. To achieve this effect, about 250 private cars in Berlin will have to be changed to electric cars.
